The first couple I've pick to participate in are:
Horror and Urban Fantasy Reading Challenge – hosted by Book Chick City. The goal is to read 24 horror or urban fantasy titles throughout the 2011. I think that is very doable for me but I don't think I will up it for me as I have a lot of other wonderful books on my to be read stack that aren't urban fantasy and if anything, I'd like to read more other kinds of books and still read 24-50 urban fantasy titles (I read 221 books in 2009 so I think 24-50 of 2011 being urban fantasy or horror is not unreasonable).
1. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
2. License to Ensorcell by Katherine Kerr
3. Late Eclipses by Seanan McGuire
4. River Marked by Patricia Briggs

Mystery and Suspense Reading Challenge – hosted by Book Chick City. The goal of this reading challenge is to read 12 mystery or suspense books. Super easy (I think right now anyway but if last year has shown me anything, I don't always accomplish the easy ones). I am going to try and stick to reading just mystery, cozy mystery or suspense books without paranormal themes (those get counted in one of the other challenges).
1. Dogs Don't Lie by Clea Simon

I am also participating Reading from my Shelves Challenge hosted by Diane from Bibliophile by the Sea. This is a big deal for me because my shelves are overflowing where I have over 300 unread books. I am setting my goal high - 25 books but not too high since I have a hard time giving up books. I think I can hit this. I've recently thought about the idea of moving my shelves and shelves of books and decided I didn't need to keep everything. I've recently sent nine books out through paperbackswap.com (pbs) and I haven't replaced any of them. 1. Dark Lover by J.R. Ward (pbs 2/2)
2. Fatal Fixer-Upper by Jennie Bentley (pbs 2/2)
3. Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey (pbs 2/27)
4. Trolls in the Hamptons by Celia Jerome (pbs 3/10)
5. Blunderland by Elizabeth O'Kane - giveaway here on CB&B

I think I’m going to stretch a little and participate in an Eastern European Reading Challenge hosted by Amy from The Black Sheep Dances. I enjoy historical fiction and need to read more literary fiction, so this might be a good change for me. I’d love to do the scholar level of participation (12 books in 12 months) but I’m worried I won’t hit that so I’ll stick with tourist for now (4 books in 12 months) and change depending on how much I enjoy the books I find.1. Welcome to my challenges! I hope you enjoy them both and thanks so much for signing up! :D
ReplyDeleteOh..I have a feeling I'll be tempted to join both of those too. lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks BCC!
ReplyDeleteKris, I am trying to stick with challenges I know will work for me. This next year is the final two semesters (spring and summer) of my undergraduate studies and I nervous about being too busy with that to read a bunch of more complex books. Plus, I'm getting married and I know that will increase the craziness going on with me. All three currently up there should be great though!
I'm thinking of doing the Horror & Urban Fantasy challenge as well. Oh, who am I kidding. I'll most likely sign up for it. :) Just need to take the time to do so, with all thats going on.
ReplyDeleteI know, I'm late at getting here but these are great challenges. :) Best of luck to you.
I am so happy you decided to join the Reading from Your Shelves Project. Have fun and good luck.
